It is a familiar story for non-resident British citizens in Mallorca and the rest of the European Union; you can only spend 180 days here in two batches of 90 days. It has caused many problems but British citizens were keeping their fingers crossed that things would change especially as both Britain and Spain are talking more bilateral deals.
But the 90 day rule has now been extended to include Gibraltar. According to The Guardian, "passport checks will be carried out at the port and airport by British and Spanish border guards. Spanish officers will be empowered to deny entry to the British overseas territory to any British national who has already exceeded their 90-day stay limit. Under Schengen rules, UK citizens are limited to stays of 90 days within a 180-day period."
The newspaper said: "The agreement, hailed as “historic”, will erase the border separating the British overseas territory from the rest of the Iberian peninsula.
"Gibraltar will be connected to the EU’s border-free Schengen zone, meaning Gibraltarians can move freely in the surrounding region, although without rights to work and settle elsewhere in the EU."
Attempts have been made, especially in France to scrap the 90 day rule because of its enormous impact on British holiday home owners. However, so far these moves have proved unsuccessful.

Morgan WilliamsGibraltar ? Been on several occasions, possibly more than you. By land, sea and air.
Ulla JacksonAbout what ? Magaluf ? Done that. The Serra de Tramontana? Done that. The local bus service ? Done that. This newspaper ? Done that on many occasions. VOX ? Done that. The high intellectual level of most of the correspondents here ? Done that. The amiability and efficiency of the Police when one enquires about a Residencia ? Done that . Do you have any suggestions then ?
Richard PearsonI am waiting for a positive contribution from you too, Mr Pearson. I hope it won't take too long.
Richard PearsonUnsurprisingly, you missed that. It was a compliment to *Gibraltar*, not England. You ought to go there and see for yourself. You might learn something. Having said that, England is about the same as anywhere else. There's good things, bad things. Like anywhere. (shrugs shoulders). English people are generally well mannered, polite. Say nice things even if disingenuously. However, many English *quite famously* live in a special insular world that leads them to believe that everything "British" (read: English) is the base standard by which all life is, should be, or should at least aspire to become. Everything else is of course, abnormal and substandard. It's not a conscious thought. It's a basic presumption. Likely due to the lack of knowledge of "the rest of the world" as result of that famous insularity. Yet, ironically many English people when abroad ("Brits abroad"), behave ... well, I need not elaborate. It's not any kind of secret... it's a well known stereotype. And you don't have to look to far to see examples of it in action. And you can be sure all those lowlife foreigners you detest so much... get a good chuckle when they see it in action. As most "foreigners" see rather plainly, there's actually nothing special about the English or England, and in many cases, English people exhibit a character more like what many English accuse everybody else of. How ironic. And amusing. Monty-python-esque. You and a few others here (and a few little Englanders I've known) exhibit that character often (I've referred to you as the "icon of irony" on a few occasions). You still don't seem to get it... act as if everybody else is some sort of idiot for laughing at you. But the joke is on you. Just part of the English charm, I reckon.
Morgan WilliamsThat must be the first (and only) positive comment you have made about England since I have been contributing (my opinion, not yours) to these pages. Well done ! You are finally seeing the light !
Zoltan TeglasActually, Gibraltar is a really unique and different kind of place. Very special. Definitely worth visiting. It's like England without the attitude. I like it a lot.
Why would anyone want to spend 90 days in Gibraltar? 90 minutes is enough!
Richard PearsonDid you dream that up all by yourself? It's quite a stretch, and difficult to find any other similar assessment. Who does it benefit? Gibraltar. It's a tiny place. For many, day to day life involves going back and forth over the border, sometimes several times daily. If not just to go out for awhile and explore the neighbourhood. For both the Gibs and the Spanish. It's been a royal pain in the arse for Gib since Brexit. And now, there will be flights to and from other places than just England. That will be a relief for them as well, since they won't have to fly to Heathrow to go to Madrid or Paris or wherever... And frankly, many, if not most Gibraltarians identify more with Spain than with England, and the Spanish and Gibraltarians are very well integrated, which is why they overwhelmingly voted remain. It's unclear what any of this has to do with Morocco. Completely different animal. But it serves as just another example of your typical diversions for the sake of arguing how bad Europe is (and of course, the poor abused Brits thing). But you ought to try it. It doesn't suck. Really.
Do the Brexiteers holiday away from.the UK ?
