MONTANA - The National Interagency Fire Center in Boise has released its significant wildfire outlook, indicating a potentially intense wildfire season for Montana.

According to the projections, much of the state is marked in red for June, July, and August, signifying an above-normal chance of major fires.

Dry conditions and wind are perennial issues during the summer months. Brian Conlan from the Missoula National Weather Service emphasized that this year is on track to be noteworthy.

"The models have been, they've been very consistent month over month that this summer will be drier than normal and warmer than normal," Conlan said.

Conlan also highlighted that storm activity could play a dual role. While rain can reduce fire risks, dry thunderstorms remain a concern as they can produce lightning, exacerbating fire conditions.
