EVENING. GOOD MORNING. TODAY IS MONDAY, MARCH 31ST. IT’S 430 ON MATT BARCARO. I’M CAITLIN SMITH. LET’S GET RIGHT TO CHIEF METEOROLOGIST CHRISTINE FERREIRA ON THE IMPACT DAY. IMPACT DAY TODAY. BECAUSE WE HAVE A COLD FRONT COMING IN. LET ME SHOW YOU OUR STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK. AND YOU CAN SEE THE PROGRESSION OF THIS OVERNIGHT. NOW, THIS LINE OF SHOWERS, THUNDERSTORMS IS WEAKENING. SO THIS IS NOT GOING TO DISTURB US THIS MORNING. YOU MIGHT GET A SPRINKLE OUT OF IT, BUT I AM WATCHING LATER TODAY AHEAD OF THIS COLD FRONT FOR MORE DEVELOPMENT OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. AND LIKE MATT SAID, THE THREAT THAT WE’RE WATCHING THE MOST IS GOING TO BE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS. HERE’S A LOOK AT YOUR CURRENT. THERE IS A BOUNDARY DRAPED ACROSS NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA THAT’S KEEPING READING IN THE 40S. WHILE IT’S IN THE 60S IN YORK AND GETTYSBURG, EVEN 56 DEGREES FOR CHAMBERSBURG, 51 IN HARRISBURG AND LEBANON. SO THERE IS SOME COOLER AIR JUST OFF TO OUR NORTHEAST, BUT MOST SPOTS ARE INCREDIBLY MILD. THIS MORNING. 12 HOUR FORECAST TODAY. WE KEEP MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES AROUND FOR THE MORNING. YOU MAY SEE SOME BREAKS OF SUN INTO THE AFTERNOON, AND THE MORE SUN WE SEE, THE STRONGER THOSE STORMS COULD BE LATER ON TODAY. IF IT STAYS CLOUDIER, THE STORMS ARE TYPICALLY WEAKER. SO WHAT WE’RE GOING TO BE WATCHING IS FROM ABOUT 3:00 TO 10:00, A WINDOW OF SOME SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS COMING THROUGH THE AREA WITH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS BEING OUR PRIMARY CONCERN. MORE DETAILS ON THE HOUR BY HOUR FORECAST COMING UP. BREAKING OVERNIGHT, FIREFIGHTERS PUT OUT A GARAGE FIRE IN SPRINGETTSBURY TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY DISPATCHERS SAY CREWS WERE CALLED TO THE FIRE JUST BEFORE 130 THIS MORNING ON ARBOR LANE, NEAR PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD AND CONIFER COURT. CREWS WERE ON THAT SCENE, PUTTING OUT THE FIRE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. DISPATCHERS SAY THEY’RE NOT AWARE OF ANYONE BEING HURT. AN INVESTIGATION INTO A DEADLY FIRE CONTINUES THIS MORNING IN DAUPHIN COUNTY, A MAN, WOMAN AND FOUR DOGS ALL DIED IN THAT HOUSE FIRE YESTERDAY MORNING ON FAIRFAX DRIVE IN LOWER PAXTON TOWNSHIP. POLICE SAY FIRE CREWS FOUND 33 YEAR OLD ELISE SAUCEDO UNRESPONSIVE ON THE SECOND FLOOR. THEY SAY THEY TOOK HER OUTSIDE, BUT SHE NEVER REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS. INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY ALSO FOUND A MAN ON THE SECOND FLOOR. HE WAS ALREADY DEAD. THREE OTHER DOGS THAT WERE FOUND OUTSIDE AND WERE NOT HURT WERE TAKEN TO THE DAUPHIN COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY. AUTOPSIES ARE SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW ON THE MAN AND WOMAN WHO DIED IN YOUR COUNTY. NO ONE IS HURT AFTER THIS MOBILE HOME FIRE, BUT WE ARE LEARNING THAT SEVERAL ANIMALS WERE TRAPPED AND HAD TO BE RESCUED. THIS IS IN NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP ON RIDGE ROAD. WHEN THE CREWS GOT THERE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, THEY FOUND THAT HOME IN FLAMES WITH THE FIRE SPREADING TO A NEARBY MOBILE HOME AND MULTIPLE SHEDS. INVESTIGATORS SAY THIS WAS A PROPANE FED FIRE, BUT THE CAUSE IS BEING INVESTIGATED. THE DRIVER OF A FIRE TANKER THAT ROLLED OVER IN MIFFLIN COUNTY HAS BEEN CITED FOR CARELESS DRIVING. THAT CRASH HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND AT WEST THIRD AND GRAND STREET IN LEWISTOWN, AS A JUNCTION FIRE COMPANY TANKER WAS RESPONDING TO A CALL. ACCORDING TO LEWISTOWN POLICE, THAT TANKER IGNORED THE RED LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION AND COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER CAR, THEN FLIPPED OVER AND HIT A HOUSE AND A UTILITY POLE. THE LEWISTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS BOTH PEOPLE IN THAT TANKER WENT TO THE HOSPITAL. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE TANKER WAS GOING ABOUT 40 MILES AN HOUR WHEN IT CRASHED. THIS MORNING, TWO PEOPLE RECOVERING AFTER THEY WERE STABBED. YESTERDAY. THIS HAPPENED OUTSIDE THE ISLAMIC CENTER ON NORTH QUEEN STREET IN LANCASTER. POLICE BELIEVE THE ASSAULT TOOK PLACE AFTER AN ARGUMENT, BUT THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL ONGOING. POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT IS THE ONE WHO FLAGGED OFFICERS DOWN AND HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. BOTH PEOPLE WHO WERE STABBED WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND ARE EXPECTED TO BE OKAY. TODAY, THE TRIAL IN A DECADES LONG CASE CONTINUES IN LANCASTER. JERRY BAGGENSTOSS IS CHARGED IN THE MURDER OF HIS ESTRANGED WIFE MORE THAN 40 YEARS AGO. IN THE FIRST DAY OF TESTIMONY ON FRIDAY, NOW RETIRED TROOPER RICHARD JOHNSON TALKED ABOUT HOW STATE POLICE TOOK THAT CASE OVER FROM PEQUEA TOWNSHIP POLICE. ONE WEEK AFTER MARIANNE BAGGENSTOSS DISAPPEARANCE. THAT WAS IN JUNE OF 1984. IN OPENING STATEMENTS ON FRIDAY, THE DEFENSE SAID JERRY BAGGENSTOSS IS A SON, FATHER AND FRIEND. THEY SAY THIS CASE HAS NO REAL EVIDENCE, NO BODY, NO CRIME SCENE, NO WEAPON. AND THAT WHEN THE INVESTIGATION GOT DESPERATE, THEY BLAMED JERRY BAGGENSTOSS AGAIN. THAT’S ALL. ACCORDING TO THE DEFENSE. THE PROSECUTION SAYS THAT THE EVIDENCE OF HIS GUILT IS THAT HE HAD INCONSISTENT STATEMENTS. THE DAY THAT MARIANNE BAGGENSTOSS DISAPPEARED. THEY SAY HE LIED ABOUT NOT GOING TO WORK, ABOUT HAVING HIS CHILD AND ABOUT HER ON THE DAY SHE DIED. BOTH OF PENNSYLVANIA’S U.S. SENATORS ARE FACING BACKLASH FROM FRUSTRATED VOTERS. HUNDREDS OF THEM TURNED OUT THIS WEEKEND IN PITTSBURG TO SEND A MESSAGE TO SENATOR JOHN FETTERMAN AND DAVE MCCORMICK. AND YOU HEAR THE CHICKEN DANCE THERE AND PEOPLE DANCING IN CHICKEN SUITS, ALSO HOLDING THOSE MISSING MILK CARTONS. A FEW HUNDRED PEOPLE DEMONSTRATED THAT. THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE CALLING A SEARCH PARTY FOR REPUBLICAN DAVE MCCORMICK AND DEMOCRAT JOHN MCCORMICK. JOHN FETTERMAN, ANGRY AND WE ARE SCARED. WE HAVE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR NIH FUNDING. WE HAVE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS. DEMOCRACY HAS TO WORK. WE ARE THE PEOPLE, AND YOU HAVE TO COME AND HEAR FROM THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED THEM AND TAKE CARE OF THEM IN WASHINGTON. SO HERE’S THE BACK STORY. THE TWO U.S. SENATORS HAD ANNOUNCED A JOINT APPEARANCE FOR A PAID BOOK EVENT NEARBY. BUT THEN JUST A FEW HOURS NOTICE, THEY POSTPONED IT. IN LEBANON, THE COMMUNITY IS COMING TOGETHER ON THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF A POLICE OFFICER, LIEUTENANT WILLIAM LEBO SERVED LEBANON FOR 40 YEARS BEFORE LOSING HIS LIFE IN THE LINE OF DUTY. HE WAS SHOT AND KILLED WHILE RESPONDING TO A BURGLARY AT A HOME. WELL, TODAY, THE CITY IS HOSTING ITS THIRD ANNUAL UMBRELLA WALK. LIEUTENANT LEBO IS KNOWN TO CARRY A GREEN AND WHITE GOLF UMBRELLA EVERY DAY TO WORK WITH HIM. THAT WALK BEGINS THIS AFTERNOON AT 430 IN SOUTHWEST PARK. IN HARRISBURG. TODAY, STATE REPRESENTATIVES ARE MARKING TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY IN THE CAPITOL ROTUNDA. ADVOCATE GROUPS ARE HOLDING A RALLY TO HIGHLIGHT LEGISLATION THEY SAY WOULD PROTECT TRANS STUDENTS. THE PACKAGE OF BILLS INCLUDES AN OVERHAUL TO THE NAME CHANGING PROCESS IN PENNSYLVANIA, AND THAT BILL WOULD PROPOSE A SEPARATE NAME CHANGING APPLICATION FOR ADULTS AND MINORS. LATER THIS MORNING, THE AHMADIYYA MUSLIM COMMUNITY’S HARRISBURG CHAPTER IS CELEBRATING EID AL-FITR. THIS IS THE AT THE MOSQUE. I SHOULD SAY IT’S AT 1030 THIS MORNING. THAT EVENT MARKS THE END OF RAMADAN FOR MUSLIMS. THAT’S THAT MONTH LONG DAWN TO DUSK FAST. IT’S OBSERVED BY BILLIONS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE WORLD IN THE NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY NATIVE THOMAS HAWK HELPED FLORIDA BEAT TEXAS TECH TO MAKE IT TO THE FINAL FOUR. HAWK, WHO IS FROM NEW OXFORD, SCORED 20 POINTS ALONG WITH 11 REBOUNDS IN 30 MINUTES OFF THE BENCH ON SATURDAY NIGHT. TEXAS TECH HAD A NINE POINT LEAD WITH LESS THAN THREE MINUTES LEFT, BUT FLORIDA ENDED THE GAME ON A 18 FOUR RUN TO GET THE WIN. HERE’S HAWKS SPEAKING WITH OUR SISTER STATION ON THE COURT AFTER SATURDAY NIGHT’S GAME IN SAN FRANCISCO. IT’S CRAZY MAN. IT’S CRAZY. I STILL I KNOW I FEEL LIKE I HAD TO WAKE UP FROM A DREAM, YOU KNOW, IT’S WILD, BRO. IT’S WILD. HOW DOES A KID FROM PENNSYLVANIA END UP IN GAINESVILLE GOING TO TEXAS FOR THE FINAL FOUR? I DON’T KNOW, MAN. IT’S WILD. JUST. I JUST THINK IT’S GOD’S BLESSING, YOU KNOW? JUST HAD A PLAN FOR ME AND GOT ME HERE AND THEN, YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY GO TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS HERE IN SAN ANTONIO THE NEXT TWO GAMES. AND SPEAKING OF THOSE NEXT TWO GAMES, AT LEAST THE NEXT ONE, THEY’LL BE FACING AN SEC FOE IN THE FINAL FOUR. AFTER AUBURN KNOCKED OFF MICHIGAN STATE IN THE ELITE EIGHT LAST NIGHT. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRACKET, DUKE AND HOUSTON WILL FACE OFF AFTER EACH OTHER. THEY EACH GOT A BLOWOUT WIN OVER THE WEEKEND. AND IN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IN THAT TOURNAMENT, WE CAN TELL YOU THAT THE FINAL TWO SPOTS IN THE FINAL FOUR WILL BE CLAIMED TODAY.
