A long journey that began in Las Cruces, New Mexico ended in Delaware Tuesday for 36 shelter dogs.
Now, Faithful Friends Animal Society is taking care of them and preparing them to be adopted locally.

Starr Foster Schneider said she traveled for two days in a large van with dogs ranging in age from about eight weeks to six years. She said spay-and-neuter requirements in New Mexico are lax, and the dogs were in jeopardy.
She found Faithful Friends through an internet search. After Tuesday, she was planning to bring more dogs to Connecticut for adoption.
"Certain areas of the country are always having a struggle with being overcrowded," Faithful Friends Executive Director Jane Pierantozzi said. "We reached out to several rescues that we know need help."
Pierantozzi added that large- and medium-sized dogs are not being moved as quickly into homes as desired. Faithful Friends accepted a number of smaller dogs as well as a few larger, but still active, dogs Tuesday.
"The dogs that we brought today are absolutely amazing," Schneider said. "We're hoping that Delaware residents will come take a look at all of these babies, and maybe adopt one. They're very special kiddoes."
In addition to the new arrivals, Pierantozzi said other dogs have also been in the shelter for "way too long." Some have been abused or neglected in the past.
"We've got some great dogs, waiting for homes."

People interested in adopting a pet are asked to visit www.faithfulfriends.us or visit the facility at 165 Airport Road in New Castle. Also, through May 15th, FFAS is partnering with the Bissell Pet Foundation Empty the Shelters Event, during which adoption fees are being reduced.
Additionally, Faithful Friends Animal Society hosts a Guest Bartender Event Thursday May 9th at BBC Tavern & Grill in Greenville between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
